# 1. INTRODUCTION

Imagine...

You're in BG2, going through a huge forest, which is swarming with monsters and animals of all kinds that are absolutely unbelievably aggressive! There are really everywhere and... you clean up!
A few hours later... when you pass by again, it's incredibly deserted. No fighting, no ambushes, no presence of the slightest hostile creature (although it still seems normal: you've just cleared the area).
However, when you come back several months later... it's still just as deserted. It's as quiet as ever. It's as if you alone (and with the help of your few companions) had decimated all the animals and monsters that populated this immense forest in a few hours. Quite a feat, even for a demigod... !

The world is vast... the creatures that populate it are numerous, and those that inhabit the surrounding woods and forests will inevitably end up repopulating the empty spaces.

# 2. PRESENTATION

WARNING: THIS MOD DOES NOT CURRENTLY OFFER A HIGH LEVEL OF CUSTOMISATION AND HAS SOME DISADVANTAGES THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED "MAJOR". BE SURE TO READ SECTION "5. ABOUT THE MOD" BEFORE INSTALLING.

Respawn_BG2EE is a WEIDU mod which aims to fill the lack of realism caused by the non-appearance of hostile creatures in their habitat area.
This mod does not create additional spawn points and is not intended to make the player's experience more difficult. It only allows the resetting of existing spawn points (spawned creatures are specific to the area and have not been upgraded or changed in their drop level: XP, gold, items...).
All BG2EE and ToB maps have been carefully checked to ensure that no "special" creature (e.g. boss) can reappear indefinitely in this way.

# 3. INSTALLATION

1. Extract the contents of the .zip file into your game directory.

2. Click on setup-Respawn_BG2EE.exe and select "Yes" to install the mod.

3. Select the probability of respawn.

4. Launch the game and start a new game. Warning: the mod will not change all respawns on a running game (see section "5. ABOUT THE MOD" for more details).

5. To uninstall Respawn_BG2EE, run the setup-Respawn_BG2EE.exe again and select uninstall. Warning: uninstalling will not remove all respawns on a running game (see section "5. ABOUT THE MOD" for details).

# 4. COMPATIBILITY

The mod has only been checked for compatibility with BG2EE (with or without ToB). The mod could perhaps have more portability provided that the content of the other editions and the way they are structured is checked first (I don't own these editions so I can check them myself).
The mod should be compatible with any mod that does not modify or add spawn points using the "Spawn AREA" method. In case such a mod is installed with Respawn_BG2EE, Respawn_BG2EE will not cause any bugs but will probably create some undesirable effects (e.g. respawn of bosses involving a continuous drop of their items).
In any case it would be better to install this mod before any other mod modifying and/or adding spawn points using the "Spawns AREA" method (at the risk of losing the possibility of some respawns).

# 5. ABOUT THE MOD

In versions below 1.0.0, the mod will continue to use the "Spawn AREA" method and will have the following drawbacks:
- In order for all changes to this mod to take effect, it is necessary to start a new game after installing/uninstalling it.
- Installing the mod on a game in progress will not change the respawn status of the maps already visited. If you install this mod and reload your game, the spawn points of the already visited maps will remain inactive despite the mod installation.
- Uninstalling the mod on a game in progress will not change the state of the respawns of the maps already visited. If you uninstall this mod and reload your game, the spawn points of the already visited maps will remain active despite the uninstallation of the mod.
- It will not be possible to "choose" the number of spawned creatures (although it would be possible to do some things in this regard, but it would be more of a maximum number of spawned creatures than a set number).
- It will not be possible to choose the duration between respawns. Currently this duration is set to 16 hours by the game engine (sleeping twice on the map will reset all your spawn points).
- Spawn points will be automatically reset if you leave the map and return OR if you save your game and reload.

The only option that can be set is currently the respawn probability, however it is not very intuitive either and works as follows => 20% chance will indicate that, if the spawn point has been reset (16h in game OR when reloading the map), there will be a 20% chance that the monster(s) will appear when you enter the spawn area. If you leave the spawn area and return, there will be another 20% chance that the monster(s) will appear until they do.

SO ONLY INSTALL THIS MOD IF YOU ARE SURE YOU WANT TO START A GAME WITH IT AND WANT TO CONTINUE IT TO THE END.

Due to the inherent drawbacks of the Spawn AREA method, there will be no planned update to mitigate or compensate for the current shortcomings.
A major upgrade in which AREA spawns are removed and replaced with spawns via .INI files is still a possibility, however, and would address the current drawbacks while providing many new configuration options.

# 6. FAQ

Q: When will the major update of this mod be released?
A: No idea... A major upgrade is possible; not planned.

Q: I started a game with this mod but the respawns ended up bothering me, so I uninstalled it. However, the monster respawns still appear. What can I do about it?
A: As stated in section 5 "Only install this mod if you are sure you want to continue your game to the end with it". As far as I know, the only solution to keep your game and permanently remove respawns would be to edit your savegame with Near Infinity (or any other game editor for BG2EE) and manually deactivate, one by one, each respawn of each map in the savegame. It's quite long depending on the stage you're at in the game (I'd say 1 to 2 hours maximum if you master the tool, so it also takes time to learn how to master it).

Q: Is it possible to modify the respawn probability on a game in progress?
A: No. Just like the respawns themselves or any element of the "Spawns AREA". The change will only be effective on maps not yet visited. To make these changes to all the maps in your current game, you must edit your savegame with a game editor such as Near Infinity and manually change the contents of your savegame.

Q: Why did you use the AREA spawn method instead of going directly to the INI spawn method?
A: The AREA spawn method is the one currently used in the game. And so... a mod whose only ambition was to just keep them activated did not require a very long development time and did not pose any particular difficulties. Replacing all the current spawns with .INI files posed several difficulties, which I didn't want to venture into in order to save myself a lot of headaches. I created this mod for myself, I wanted to quickly start a new game in conditions that I was comfortable with. So I just took the opportunity to share this mod in case others are interested.
